Meatballs In Sauce Recipe

This meatballs in sauce recipe is made using turkey, but you could substitute for your favorite kind of meat. The sauce is a delicious mushroom and tomato sauce with lots of yummy herbs.

Ingredients

500 grams ground turkey
3/4 cup dry breadcrumbs
1 small onion, minced
1/3 cup milk
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 egg

Mushroom-Tomato Sauce
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
250 grams button mushrooms, chopped into small pieces
1 small onion, minced
1 garlic clove, minced
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
1/2 cup beef broth
1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
salt and pepper

Directions

In large bowl, mix together all the meatball ingredients.

Shape mixture into 1-inch meatballs. Set aside.

In a saucepan over medium heat, cook mushrooms in vegetable oil for 2-3 minutes.

Add onion and garlic and cook 2-3 minutes longer.

Add crushed tomatoes, broth, basil, herbs and sugar and bring to boil.

Drop in meatballs and cook for 30 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally.

Taste and season with salt and pepper.
