Apple Crisp With A Nutty Crust Recipe

An apple crisp recipe made with a nutty crust. This is a great combination and is extra yummy warm from the oven.

Ingredients

Serves 8

5-6 apples
juice from 1/2 lemon
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 Tablespoon flour

1 cup walnuts
1/2 pecans
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1/4 cup butter cut into small cubes

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Cut the apples in quarters, peel, remove the core and chop into very small pieces for this filling. Put the chopped apples into a small mixing bowl. Squeeze the juice from the lemon and pour it into the chopped apples.

In a small container, stir together the brown sugar, cinnamon and flour; then stir this into the chopped apples.

Spoon the filling into a 9 inch pie plate.

Hand chop the walnuts and pecans. It is nice to have some texture to them and not chop them too fine.

Put them into a mixing bowl.

Add the spices and brown sugar to the nuts and stir together.

Add the butter cubes and stir together, then using your fingertips rub the butter into the nut mixture and make a pea type consistency.

Cover the apple pie filling evenly with the nut crust topping.

Bake for 30-35 minutes until nice and brown and the apples are cooked through.
