Caramel Apple Tart Recipe

An easy apple tart recipe with a delicious caramel sauce.

Ingredients

Serves 8

Caramel Sauce
1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar
1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
6 tablespoons unsalted butter

Crust
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup confectioners sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chilled unsalted butter, cubed
2 large egg yolks

Filling
6 large apple, peeled, quartered, cored
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp all purpose flour
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cardamom

Directions

Prepare the caramel: In a heavy bottom medium saucepan, bring sugar, cream and butter to a boil whisking often and boiling until caramel thickens, about 10 minutes.

Prepare the crust by blending flour, confectioners sugar, and salt in processor.

Add butter and blend until coarse meal forms. Add egg yolks. Pulse until moist clumps form.

Form into a ball, and then flatten into a disc. Wrap and chill for 1 hour.

Prepare the filling by mixing sugar, flour, cinnamon and cardamom. Add apples and toss until coated.

Preheat oven to 375F.

Roll out dough on lightly floured surface into a 13 inch circle.

Transfer to 9 inch tart pan with a removable bottom.

Press sides of dough to bring 1/4 inch above sides of pan.

Arrange apple quarters in circle around outer edge of pa, moving in towards center.

Bake tart until apples are tender, about 1 hour 15 minutes.

Remove from oven, brush with some of the caramel sauce. Cool tart to room temperature.

Drizzle tart lightly with caramel sauce and serve.
