This recipe for cheese rolls is easy to make with puff pastry, and a delicious combination of sweet and salty.
Let puff pastry defrost for at least 40 minutes.
Often the package will come with 2 pieces.
Take out one piece and lay the pastry out flat.
Roll the pastry out into a rectangle.
Top with prosciutto, cheese and basil.
Roll up the pastry like a jelly roll and plate onto a cutting board covered with a clean towel or plastic wrap.
Roll up into one big spiral.
If you have time, chill in fridge for 1 hour to make it easier to slice.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Remove and cut the log into as many pieces as you like, just be sure that they are even for even baking times.
In a small bowl mix together egg and water.
Brush egg/water over the dough that is exposed.
Grease a baking tray with butter or line with parchment paper.
Transfer pieces to pan.
Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.
Serve warm or cold, storing extras in an airtight container in the fridge.
