Cinnamon Chocolate Cake Recipe

This cinnamon chocolate cake recipe also has a little chile powder in it. Chocolate and spices are a great compliment for each other.

1 1/4 cups milk
1 cup butter
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 Tablespoon chile powder
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
4 teaspoons cinnamon
3 eggs
3 teaspoons vanilla

Chocolate Fudge Frosting
1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces
4 tablespoons butter, softened
2 Tablespoons vanilla
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
1 cup cream
2 eggs, beaten


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Grease 2 x 9 inch round cake pans.

In a large saucepan over medium heat, heat butter, milk, cocoa powder and chili powder.

In a large bowl, mix together sugar, flour, cinnamon, and baking powder.

Add chocolate mixture, eggs and vanilla to flour mixture and mix well.

Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Leave to cool completely before frosting.

Chocolate Fudge Frosting

In large saucepan, heat chocolate, vanilla, sugar and butter until melted.

Remove from heat and add cream and eggs, blending until light and glossy.

Allow to cool for 10 minutes before frosting.

Spread on one cake layer and then place second layer on top.

Frost top and sides evenly.
