Easy Chocolate Mousse Recipe

This easy chocolate mousse can be served all by itself, or with the ladyfinger cookies layered in.

Ingredients

Mousse
1 cup bittersweet chocolate, chopped
2 Tablespoons butter
1/2 cup brewed strong coffee, cooled
3 large egg whites, at room temperature
1/8 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons granulated sugar

16 ladyfinger cookies
1/4 cup strong coffee for dipping

(Serves 4-6)

Directions

Have ready 6 serving cups

Melt the chocolate and butter in a metal bowl placed over a pot of simmering water, stir gently until melted.

Remove from the heat and allow to cool.

Whip the cream to soft peaks and stir in the coffee.

In a clean bowl, whip the egg whites with the salt until foamy, then gradually add the sugar while continuing to whip the whites until they hold a soft peak.

Fold the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate in 2 additions.

Fold in the whites all at once.

When you are ready to serve, add a layer of mousse to a cup, then dip 1-2 lady fingers quickly into the brewed coffee.

Place lady finger on top of mousse.

Repeat with mousse and lady fingers until the cups are filled.
