Fancy Caramel Apples Recipe

This is a yummy treat that is great for Halloween or can be a fun project to make at kids' parties.

Ingredients

6 large apples, preferably Granny Smith
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup butter
1 cup half and half
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 cups soft gummy candies to decorate

Directions

Wash apples and remove stems.

Insert wooden skewer into stem end of apple to make handle.

In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, half and half and vanilla.

Cook, stirring constantly until mixture reaches 240 degrees F on a candy thermometer.

Immediately place saucepan into fridge and cool to 175 degrees F.

Hold each apple by the stick and dunk and roll it completely into caramel.

Gently twirl stick so excess caramel drips off and pull out at an angle so that stick doesn't come out.

Roll caramel covered apple in plate of gummy candies or use hand to place candies on evenly.

Place apples on parchment paper to cool and harden slightly before serving.
