Hash Browns Recipe

This hash brown potato recipe explains how easy it is to make your own hash browns, from fresh potatoes.

Ingredients

8 medium sized potatoes
water, to cook the potatoes in

Optional additions:

Ham, bacon, cheese, green onion, tomatoes, salt and pepper

Directions

To make hash browns from scratch, you basically just need to have a pot of pre-boiled cold potatoes to work from.

Rinse the potatoes and put into a large pot with enough water just to cover them. Bring water to a boil, then turn down to simmer and cook until the potatoes are cooked through. You will know when you can easily piece right through them with a sharp little knife.

Drain the water out and let the potatoes cool to room temperature then put them into a bowl with a cover and leave in the refrigerator overnight.

Take the cold potatoes from the refrigerator and peel off the skins. They will come off easily with a small knife.

You can now decide if you want to make cube hash browns or shredded hash browns.

Your cooked potatoes will last refrigerated for days so just use as many potatoes as you need for your hash browns at a time.

If you are making for 2 people, then just cut two of the potatoes into cubes. Place some butter into a frying pan and pan fry the potatoes until nice and brown. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

If you want to make the dish shown, chop a small piece of cooked ham into cubes heat them up at the same time as the potatoes. Grate some shredded cheese on top, turn off the stovetop, put a lid and let it sit for a few minutes while the cheese melts, then serve.
