Old Fashioned Cake Donut Recipe

This old fashioned cake donut is a yummy chocolate treat topped with a simple and old fashioned glaze.

Ingredients

Donuts
2 cups cake flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons butter
2 large egg yolks
1 cup sour cream

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Glaze
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup milk

Makes 12 donuts

Directions

Donut

Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Set aside.

Beat together sugar and butter until combined. Beat in egg yolks until mixture has thickened. Mix in flour mixture and sour cream until well incorporated. Place dough in a bowl and chill overnight in the fridge.

Heat oil to 325F.

On a floured table roll out chilled dough so that its about 1/2 an inch thick (use flour to help roll out). Cut shaped out of dough, until dough is all used up.

Fry donuts in heated oil. Fry each side for about a minute and a half, crack should form. Transfer to a plate with paper towel to drain off excess oil.

Glaze

Whisk together sugar, salt, vanilla and milk until smooth.

Pour glaze over warm donuts. Serve.
