Homemade Quick Dough Recipe

Mix sugar and oil with water.

Sprinkle yeast over warm water mixture and let stand for 5 minutes.

In a large bowl (or stand up mixer with dough hook), mix flour and salt.

Add the yeast mixture to the flour.

Knead until a dough forms, and then for another 5 minutes or until the dough is elastic and just slightly sticky.

Cover and let rise for about 10 minutes.

Roll out the dough to a 24x14 inch rectangle about 1/4 inch in thickness.

Filling

In a large frying pan, saute onions and garlic until softened.

Add bell peppers and walnuts and saute for 5 minutes, stirring.

Season with salt, pepper and herbs.

Stir in tomato sauce, and cook for another minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before filling.

Assembly

Spoon cooled filling evenly onto dough, slightly pressing filling into dough.

Roll dough lengthwise like a jelly roll, and cut into 24 1-inch slices.

Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper and arrange rolls about 1 inch apart.

Let these rolls sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before baking.

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden.
