This simple cupcake recipe would be a good one to let your kids make. It takes the most basic of ingredients and makes a nice little cupcake.
Cupcakes
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Line a 12 muffin pan with paper liners.
Using an electric mixer and a medium sized mixing bowl, cream the sugar and butter together.
Break the eggs into a bowl one at a time then beat in to the creamy mixture. Mix in the vanilla.
In a second bowl, stir together the flour and baking Beat the dry ingredients in increments into the creamy mixture.
Mix in the milk and beat until the batter is smooth.
Divide the mixture into the lined cupcake holders.
Place into the preheated oven and bake 20 to 25 minutes. Test for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of a cupcake. It will come out clean when they are baked.
Remove from the oven and place onto a cooling rack.
Let sit for 5 minutes, then remove the cupcakes and place onto the cooling rack. When they are completely cooled you can frost them.
Simple Butter Cream Frosting
Divide the butter into 4 pieces and put them into a mixing bowl.
Using an electric mixer, beat the butter until smooth .
Add the vanilla and beat in.
Add the confectioners' sugar and continue beating until the mixture is fully combined and creamy.
Add the milk one tablespoon at a time. Use only what is need to get the desired consistency.
You can add adjust the consistency of this butter icing by adding more or less milk and icing sugar. The frosting is now ready to use.
This frosting spreads easily or you can put it into a piping bag. If it seems a bit soft when you are piping, just put the piping bag into the refrigerator for 10 minutes or so.
Assembly
Put the frosting into a piping bag, pipe onto the cupcakes and sprinkle with cake candy.
