Grow Taller By Eating Smart

Eating smart has never been this crucial as it is today as junk food and other sugar-laden foods threaten our health as well as the health of our loved ones. A healthy diet is necessary as it provides the required nutrients that our body needs to repair damaged tissues as well as nourish new cell growth. Although genes and DNA do play a major part in how a person appears, the food that one eats also plays a pivotal role to a person's overall health especially to younger individuals who have yet to reach their full growth potential.

Your Tall Platter

We would normally call a platter your food plate, but in this instance, we would be calling it the "Tall Platter" as it would contain the different types of food that is essential for you to grow taller. The platter should comprise of the following group - protein, starch, veggies, dairy and fruits.

Protein-Rich Food

Protein is essential as it provides zinc, magnesium and iron which are essential for the growth and overall physical development of the body. Lack of zinc can cause growth retardation as well as poor bone growth. Stunted growth is often seen in kids that are diagnosed with zinc deficiency. Protein comes from many sources such as poultry, meat, seeds, legumes and nuts. Zinc, on the other hand is present in egg yolks, oysters, almonds, lambs and turnips.

Starchy Food/Vegetables

One of the important food groups especially for kids is grain or starch as it provides them the necessary energy to burn the calories that they eat. Starchy food especially whole fiber grains are made of fibers that contain magnesium and other necessary minerals needed by the body. Magnesium is important as it helps in the maintenance of the bone as well as the muscles and nerves to function well. Foods that are rich in magnesium and other nutrients include brown rice, pasta and whole grain products. Vegetables are also good sources of magnesium especially green leafy vegetables, legumes and root vegetables which contain folic acids that are also essential to the formation of new tissue cells.

Dairy/Fruits

Dairy product is the most important and should be consumed in larger quantities as dairy products contain proteins, vitamin D and calcium which are all essential for the formation of the bones in our body. Calcium can come from several sources such as dairy products, fishes, dark green veggies, nuts, fortified products as well as from seaweeds.

Eating Smart

If you have difficulty making your kids eat a particular product, then you do not have to force them to eat the food. You can instead substitute the food group with another food type and as such, you will not have to waste money from too many leftovers, and yet are assured that your kids are meeting the daily vitamins and minerals that their body needs to grow taller.
