When I was young, I often heard men, a lot older than I, talking about how great onions are in their sex lives, i.e., hardness, staying power and stamina.
But when you are young you feel so powerful, so invincible, that you think you can do anything you set your mind to without needing a crutch. You don't need onions to get your sex spark going. On the contrary, if your libido can rev up from 0 to 1200 rpm at the whiff of a perfume, a sight of a cleavage or shapely legs, you want it reined in somehow.
Then you get a little older and start noticing something. It now takes a little coaxing to get that erection, and you roll off her after your first and only orgasm. And you ponder the wisdom of the onion story.
When you get to the 40s or 50s, memory joggers may be necessary to remind you of that desire. When it comes, it will be purely be in the mind. Your libido? It is lurking in the shadows waiting to get a good kick to keep it revving again.
How you wish you had lots and lots of onions then.
Well, if you have not gone beyond the age of diminishing returns, you can actually get back some of your sex spark by lowing your diet with these foods.
Note:
Onions are not included. Sexual health practitioners probably didn't find them effective. Besides, it is totally gross to engage in passionate kissing with a pungent smell in your mouth.
Celery:
This contains androsterone, an odorless hormone released through male perspiration that turns women on. Wash and clean some, cut into small pieces and eat raw.
Be careful, though, that the woman you turn on, turns you on as well.
Raw oysters:
The high zinc content of oysters raises sperm and testosterone production levels of the body It also contains dopamine, a hormone found to increase libido.
Oysters have always been considered an aphrodisiac and can effectively be used in the art of seduction by placing some on a plate with ice. Squeeze fresh lemon over it, then place it on the bed for you and your partner to start shucking on.
Banana:
Bananas are one of nature's wonder fruit; a veritable drugstore.
It contains the bromelain enzyme, which increases sex drive and reverse impotence in men.
Bananas are also rich in potassium and vitamin B - both necessary to increase your energy levels.
Avocado:
The Aztecs called the avocado tree ahuacatl, or "testicle tree." It contains high levels of folic acid, to give you more energy by metabolizing your body proteins, vitamin B6, which increases male hormone production, potassium for energy and two other elements to help increase the libido in men and women.
Figs:
Are high in libido-increasing amino acids and can improve sexual stamina. It's sweet and juicy taste are highly pleasurable to human senses.
Garlic:
This contains allicin, a pungent oily liquid with antibacterial properties. Allicin also increases blood flow to the sex organs, very much like what Viagra and the other anti-erectile dysfunction drugs do.
If you can't handle the smell, garlic capsules will do just fine.
Chocolate:
Nobody can dispute the magic a box of chocolate can do to a woman.
Magic aside, chocolate contains theobromine, an alkaloid that induces a "being in love" feeling in women.
Before rushing off to your favorite grocery store to fill your cupboard with them, remember that they are not quick fixes. They are foods you must regularly include in your diet to keep your sex life going.
Your body's testosterone production starts to go down at age 30. And age is a formidable foe to your libido. If you can't find the means of bringing them together, your sex life can be very frustrating or downright embarrassing.
