Bingo Cake Recipe

We know that you love your grandmother’s cooking, and you’ve probably enjoyed a great casserole or two on your birthday, or a wonderfully fragrant apple strudel fresh from your grandmother’s kitchen. With so many fond memories of your grandmother’s cooking, you probably want to whip something up for her now that you’ve started cooking as well, and her birthday might be the best time to do it. Why not make her a cake that doesn’t just taste delicious, but also ties in one of her favorite pastimes? This recipe for a quick-and-easy bingo cake is all you’ll ever need.

Of course, you could bake this cake for just about anyone, as by now, everyone has heard of the game. Bingo is seeing an immense and rapid boon in popularity, with the U.K.’s market becoming worth upwards of $557 million. A wealth of bingo sites has also opened in the U.K., as the BBC reports that the number of online bingo sites operating in the U.K. has grown from 20 in 2004 to 350 in 2012. Its popularity has led to big names in the industry entering the bingo market, such as the iTV Network, which recently signed a long-term deal with the Dragonfish Network. Iceland Foods, a leading supermarket chain, has also launched a bingo portal with Dragonfish. At the launch of the site, Malcolm Walker, CEO of Iceland Foods said, ”We are excited to take our popular consumer brand into the world of online bingo , which is something we know that many of our customers enjoy. Now mums – and dads - can come to Iceland Bingo, too.”

Millions of people from all over the world have started playing bingo, and while it’s still a staple of retirement homes and church halls, the fun game is also perfect for other celebrations. It’s been used in bridal showers, Christenings, and of course, in birthdays. Here’s a recipe for a bingo cake that’s sure to complete any bingo party:

Ingredients

• 1 cup of caster sugar

• 1 cup of softened butter

• 4 eggs, beaten

• 1 cup of self-raising flour

• 1 tsp of baking powder

• 2 tbsp of milk

Bake this as you would a regular cake: beat all the ingredients together in a large bowl until smooth and lump-free, and then divide the batter into two round baking tins. Bake at 375 F or Gas 5, for around twenty minutes until golden. Allow the cake to cool, and then get decorating! Make a sandwich with the two layers and frost it to your liking!

Even though the base of this cake is simple, you could replace it with any recipe you’re familiar with, as it’s the decorations that will truly make this cake a bingo lover’s dream come true. Maybe make an Orange Coffee cake base for your bingo cake, or an intense Black Forest cake. It’s all up to you!
