Halloween Lace-Up Pumpkin Cookies

Ingredients

  • Best-Ever Sugar Cookies
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Tools & special things needed

  • orange coloring gel
  • licorices ropes
  • pumpkin shaped cookie cutter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream butter with sugar. Stir in eggs and vanilla.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  4. Add to wet ingredients and stir well, tint with a little orange color gel.
  5. Chill at least 1 hour.
  6. Roll out dough 1/8″ thick.
  7. Cut into shapes.
  8. Place on ungreased sheet pan.
  9. Bake 6-8 minutes.
  10. When the cookies come out of the oven, let them sit a minute or two, then poke holes with decorating tip #10. Or you could use a bamboo skewer.
  11. If you wait too long the cookies will cool and be hard to cut holes. So cut and bake a few at a time, that way you will have time to cut all the holes.
  12. Use licorice laces for around the edges.
  13. Candy eyeballs can be glued on with icing. Smiles, both happy or scary, can be added with edible food markers.
