Chocolate And Apple Cake Recipe

Here is a nice tasting chocolate apple cake that is easy to make.


1 apple, chopped and peeled (1 cup)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1/4 cup applesauce
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Applesauce Frosting
1/2 pound cream cheese,at room temperature
1 Tablespoon butter,at room temperature
1/2 cup applesauce
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar

Garnish (optional)
1/2 cup chocolate chips, melted and drizzled


Oven to 350 degrees F.

Butter a 9 inch square cake pan.

Peel and chop the apple into small pieces. Add the sugar and cinnamon to the apples, mix to coat.

Combine the flours,baking soda,cocoa and salt in a bowl.

In another bowl, combine water, oil, lemon juice, vanilla.

Add wet to dry ingredients, stir until just combined.

Fold the apples into the batter.

Pour into prepared pan.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until done.

Remove and place on rack to cool.

Applesauce Frosting

With the electric mixer, cream the butter into the cream cheese.

Add the applesauce.

Gradually blend in the confectioners' sugar until a nice creamy consistency is obtained.

Frost when cake is cooled.

Drizzle with chocolate if desired.
