Chocolate And Vanilla Layered Cake Recipe

A Very yummy recipe for chocolate and vanilla layered cake. Great served with ice cream.


Vanilla cake
1 cup milk
1 cup butter
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

chocolate cake
1 cups all-purpose flour
1 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon espresso powder
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup boiling water
Chocolate Frosting
3/4 cups butter, softened
1/2 cup cocoa
2 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoons vanilla extract
vanilla frosting
3/4 cups butter, softened
3 cups confectioners sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoons vanilla extract
Sprinkles for decoration


Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease 3 a 8x8 inxh cake pans

For the Vanilla cake In a large saucepan, bring butter and milk just to a boil. Set aside to cool slightly.

Combine flour, sugar and eggs. Temper in the milk mixture, adding slowly and whisking smooth. Add sour cream, salt, baking powder, baking soda, vanilla extract. Pour into 2 prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

For the chocolate cake. Add flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt and espresso powder to a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer. Whisk to combine. Add milk, oil, egg, and vanilla to flour mixture and mix together on medium speed until well combined. Reduce speed and carefully add boiling water. Beat on high speed for about 1 minute to add air to the batter.

Pour into cake pan and. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick or cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.

For frosting, Cream together all ingrediesnts until well combined.

On a serving platter layer the vanilla and chocolate cakes with the chocolate frosting in the inside layers and vanilla on top. Top with sprinkles.
