Frosted Banana Cake Recipe

This frosted banana cake recipe will make you swoon.


5 ripe bananas
1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 Tablespoon vanilla
2 cups cake flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup cream cheese
1 stick butter, soft
3 cups confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 Tablespoons milk

Serves 8 - 12



Preheat oven to 350

Grease and flour 2 - 9 inch pans.

In a mixing bowl, beat ripe bananas until mashed. Beat in butter and sugar. Add in eggs one at a time and beat after each addition. Add in buttermilk and vanilla, mix until incorporated.

Whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add flour to wet mixture, mix slowly. Once incorporated mix on high speed for a few minutes.

Pour batter into prepared pans, and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Let cool, once cool enough to touch turn out of pans and let cool completely on a wire rack.


Cream together cream cheese and butter. Once light and fluffy, add sugar and vanilla. Mix slowly, until incorporated then mix on high speed for a couple of minutes. Add milk and mix in.

Spread frosting in the middle, on top and sides.

Garnish with fresh bananas and pistachios.
