Italian Butter Cookies Recipe

A Very yummy recipe for Italian butter cookies, These are a great holiday treat.


Makes 24-30

1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 whole egg
2 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt

Marischino cherries (optional)


Preheat oven to 350 degree F.

In a large bowl cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add vanilla and egg.

Slowly mix in flour and salt until the dough is smooth.

Place a star tip fitted on a piping bag.

Fill piping bag about 3/4 full with dough.

Pipe cookies about 1 inch apart on a large cookie sheet.

Press a cherry into the center of each cookie.

Bake 8-10 minutes or until golden around the edges.

Cool on rack before serving.
