This simple chocolate cake from scratch recipe is moist and easy to make.
Preheat your oven to 325ºF
Grease and flour a 9x3x5 inch loaf pan.
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugar together, on medium speed, until fluffy.
Add the egg, buttermilk and vanilla and mix until well combined.
In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix until just incorporated.
Gently pour batter into the prepared pan.
Transfer pan to the oven and bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Once done, allow the cake to sit for 15 minutes in the pan before removing.
Remove cake and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cooled, frost cake with an icing of your choice.
